I’m very glad I did, as the cob fits him beautifully. The proportions are spot on and it sits neatly on his head without looking bulky or requiring excessive adjustment. For Thoroughbred owners who often find themselves between sizes, this is definitely worth noting.

One of the features I really like about the Shires Velociti Rapida Grackle Bridle is that it is fully adjustable on both sides of the head. This allows for a more even and balanced fit, rather than pulling the bridle to one side. Being able to fine-tune the fit properly makes a noticeable difference to how the bridle sits and looks on my horse.

I’m also impressed with the clearance around the poll and ears. The bridle is really thoughtfully cut to allow plenty of room at the base of the ears, helping to reduce pressure in this sensitive area. It sits comfortably without pinching or rubbing, and Lordy appears very settled and relaxed when wearing it.

In terms of quality, I think this grackle bridle offers excellent value for money. I take good care of my leatherwork and clean and condition all my tack once a week using the Stübben saddle soap. The leather on this bridle has softened nicely, hasn’t stretched and is still looking smart with regular use. I have written a blog explaining why I use Stubben saddle soap

You can see here how clear the bridle is from his poll.

Overall, the Shires Velociti Rapida Grackle Bridle which also comes with reins (for £71) has proven to be a well-designed, practical option that doesn’t compromise on comfort or quality. With its adjustable fit, anatomical shaping and good-quality leather, it’s a bridle I am genuinely happy with. I’d happily recommend it, particularly to Thoroughbred owners looking for a smart everyday bridle that fits well and offers adjustability where it matters.

The Key Features of the Shires Velociti Rapida Grackle Bridle

Fully adjustable on both sides
Allows for a balanced, even fit across the horse’s head, making it easier to fine-tune comfort and positioning.

Thoughtful poll and ear clearance
Anatomically cut to provide space at the base of the ears, helping reduce pressure in this sensitive area.

Excellent fit
The cob size fits my Thoroughbred really well, offering good proportions without excess bulk or over-tightening.

Good quality leather for the price
Softens and wears beautifully with regular care, maintaining shape and appearance when cleaned and conditioned weekly.

I would love to hear your thoughts in the comment box below.

I’ve been using the Velociti Grackle Bridle made by Shires Equestrian on my horse Lordy, and so far I’ve been really pleased with both the fit and the overall quality.
