We are huge fans of Bombers Bits at Forelock and Load<\/strong><\/a> which many of you know and we work very closely with this super South African based company. <\/p>\n\n\n\n The Bombers Bits which we see with a metal mouthpiece are all made from Sweet Iron. Sweet Iron is a popular choice for use in bit mouthpieces as it is warmer than stainless steel and it encourages salivation. It also helps with bit acceptance as it oxidies easily which helps any horse that suffers with a dry mouth. When you buy your new Bombers Bit it will come with a beautiful blue sheen this is due to it being heated up to a high temperature which creates the blue. With use and moisture the surface of the bit will oxidise and form a dull often black\/brown colour. If you find your bit does get an excessive layer of rust on it, we recommend washing it in hot soapy water and using a scouring pad to remove the excess rust and this should return the bit back to normal. If you are going to leave the bit unused for a period of time we would recommend washing, drying and then covering the bit in Vaseline or similar to prevent it from oxidising further.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
All of the bits which we have for hire<\/strong><\/a> at Forelock and Load get regularly used and they are always put in disinfectant when returned to the shop and again before going out to new customers. We then wash the bits in hot soapy water and give them a good scrub after the disinfectant dunking and then they are all individually towel dried and hung on the board before they go to their next customer. A number of staff here also use Bombers on their horses and with regular washing and drying the bits are remaining in tip top condition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
