Philip Spivey on Flying Form in July!
Posted on 02 September 2015
International showjumper Philip Spivey has been on incredible form the last few weeks. Based just outside Bury St Edmunds, Philip and his team have been living the jet set showjumper lifestyle over the past month travelling internationally and all over the UK. The beginning of July saw the team head to Keysoe for the CSI2 Star International show at the prestigious show centre. With 3 rides he was hoping for a good few days and all horses jumped very well. Darya I Nur and Smirnov jumped well all week with Smirnov picking up placings in the big classes. Spirit in the Sky was back on form and jumped well, pleasing Philip with his performance.
A quick turnaround saw them back to the yard and off to Vimiro in Portugal for a couple of weeks with 4 horses. It was a good start to the International show with Caravaggio picking up 4th in his big class and Darya I Nur coming 2nd in the other big class. Philip was thrilled with how his horses felt after the long journey to Portugal and jumping in the European heat. The following day was also a good day with Kasparov finishing 6th in the hotly contested 6 year old class winning his first international prize money, so an exciting time! Caravaggio continued his good form and collected 5th with Smirnov jumping super in the World Ranking class and taking home a 4th. A very good day for the team, especially for the Romanov bred horses!
The following day Philip then had an unlucky day with a couple of four fault rounds, but all horses still jumping well and collecting a few more world ranking points ahead of the Grand Prix at the weekend. The Friday of the second week saw a good start to the weekend with Kasparov placing in the 6 year old class again and coming 2nd in the 6yr olds. Darya I Nur and Smirnov completed a good day by coming 2 and 3rd respectively in the big class. All the horses felt fresh and full of energy, despite the heat they performed superbly and felt nice and keen ahead of the busy weekend!
Caravaggio then had a succesful win, his first ever International win for him so an exciting result for Philip. Kasparov added some more euros to the prize money pot with a 5th place in his 6yr old class, jumping impeccably well amongst the large field of top class young horses. Sunday was the Grand Prix day, the biggest class of the show where Philip had Smirnov and Darya I Nur jumping, hoping for good rounds. He had a fantastic end to the 2 weeks out in the sun Darya I Nur jumping two super rounds in her first 2* Grand Prix and getting placed , a very pleasing result for a great show.
So after Portugal the long journey back to the UK was made, before they headed off down to Sussex for the Royal International at Hickstead with another team of horses! The week was overall a successful one with the highlight of the week being Darya I Nur finishing 2nd in the Old Lodge Breeding Championship. Some well deserved time in the field is now in store for this talented and consistent mare! Despite it being a manic few weeks there was certainly no rest for the wicked with Philip heading to Patchetts on Monday for a newcomers regional final!
A busy time for the showjumping team but the results are certainly speaking for themselves! Well done Team Spivey
