Caroline Powell's Incredible Weekend At Little Downham

Posted on 06 October 2015

International Event rider Caroline Powell has had a sensational few days whilst competing at the local Little Downham Horse Trials in Ely. With the competition taking place from Saturday to Monday Caroline had her hands full with 9 rides over the three days!

On Saturday she just had one ride with RCA Bodacious in the BE90 Open, this young horse has only just started his event season this year and did a solid performance to get the weekend started. On the Sunday the team were back with 5 horses for the BE100 and Novice classes.  Flipper K was also in the BE100 and did a very smart test to score 26.5 in the dressage and then going on and jumping a clear in the showjumping. He stormed around the cross country with Caroline giving him a very educational ride, a pleasing effort as he is only a young horse.

Erco Polo B, Chance Encounter VII & Ballintoher Harry were all in the Novice sections also on the Sunday. They all put in foot perfect performances with very smart dressage tests to all finish in the top 10 picking up 1st, 3rd and 6th places respectively. A thrilling result for Caroline & her owners which only makes these young horses even more exciting for the future!

Today she returned for the final day of competing with the Intermediate classes taking place on the Monday for the professional riders.A much quieter day today for the team with just 2 horses making the trip down the road! Sinatra Frank Baby was competing in the Intermediate class whilst Stellor Seaurchin was in the Open Intermediate class. Sinatra Frank Baby did a beautiful test to mark 29.3 before going on and jumping a text book double clear inside the time to take the class for Caroline! A fab result finishing 2 marks ahead of anyone else. Stellor Seaurchin also did a lovely test marking 29.1 and also going on to jump a lovely double clear. She just added 4.4 time penalties to her dressage across the country and finished on a mark of 4.4 finishing on 33.5 and taking home 3rd place.
What a weekend for Caroline and her team! A fantastic few days at Little Downham with nearly everyone coming home inside of the top 10. Caroline now has a quieter week before finishing her season at Pau four star in France! Another fabulous result for Team Powell!
