Description

Bomber Loose Ring Dressage Control Plate Bit Hire

The Dressage Control Plate is set at 45° to follow the contour of the horses tongue. Consequently, a horse who uses his tongue as a means of pushing against the bit and therefore taking control, will draw back and tuck his chin in, coming back to a better point of control.  Where this bit differs to a traditional French Link is the shape and the setting of the plate.  The Dressage Control Plate actually lies on the horse’s tongue not the edge of the plate.

The Loose Ring allows for immediate release and relief from tongue and bar pressure. The bit is immediately reset to a neutral position in the horse’s mouth.

The Dressage Control Plate is narrower (12mm) than the conventional Control Plate and applies more tongue pressure.

Tried this bit on hire for a horse that tends to poke her nose and push against and over the bit in a French link or lozenge. I have to say it does exactly what it says on the tin, I have a decent contact, with ability to soften and flex her easily, yet she doesn’t back off it, happily goes into the contact including when jumping. Really, really pleased. In an ideal world would have chosen the full cheek version, but too impatient to wait to order it!

Fitting Details

Fitting the Bomber Bit

The bit should be fitted in your horse’s mouth with the size (as you look at the horse) the correct way up for you to read and on your right-hand side.

We recommend that you have the bit so the horse just has ½ to one lip wrinkle at the corner of the mouth. This might have to be altered if the horse has large canines.

When fitting a bit with a fixed cheek e.g an eggbutt we recommend that the lip should sit flush with the butt to ensure a snug but not tight fit. When fitting a loose ring (pictured below) we like to see a bit of clearance either side of approx. 3-4mm to make sure the lips will not get pinched.

If you have any queries please email Kirstie with photos so we can recommend how to change it.
