Description

The Loose Ring allows for immediate release and relief from tongue and bar pressure. The bit is immediately reset to a neutral position in the horse’s mouth.

We have recently discovered a new conformation issue, we are finding more and more horses that have a narrow bottom jaw. This effects how the standard Happy Tongue fits. The Happy Tongue was designed to give maximum tongue relief, while also having a flat part on the sides that sits comfortably on the bars. With horses that have a narrow bottom jaw, the standard Happy Tongue port is too wide and it sometimes goes over to the outside of the bars. This is what can cause the head throwing, and discomfort.

This is why the Happy Tongue Narrow was born, which has a narrower port, we are compromising somewhat on tongue relief, but we have to balance that against the horses comfort. If you look at the comparison photograph below you can see that the flat part of the bit has been extended to sit on the bars.

Please have a look in your horse’s mouth, under the tongue. If the distance between the bars is less than 4cm, he has a narrow bottom jaw, in which case he will need a Narrow Happy Tongue.

This bit has made a huge difference to two of my horses. One is a big, strong ISH and the other a Connemara/TB who pulls incredibly hard and has a tendency to lean against the hand. I have tried many different types and makes of bits and both horses are very happy in this bit, working into a light and regular contact, both in an arena and out hacking. Thanks very much to Kirstie at F&L for suggesting I try this bit. Highly recommended!
