Hi,

I just wanted to say “Hello” and to let you know what I’ve been up to with Annie.

I’m loving the summer weather at the moment, it means I can ride with my friends, go cross country schooling and do so much more than in the winter. Annie is also loving the summer life, relaxing all day and enjoying everything we do – she’s so keen!

I thought you might like to get to know me a bit, so here are some facts about me and what Annie and I are working on together…

Everyone has got to have that one special and inspirational person they’d love to be. My idol is 4* eventer, Caroline Powell. She inspires me because of how brave and dedicated she is when working with her horses. She is just awesome! Caroline also shows how important it is to work hard towards your goals and that you should never give up. Amazingly, Caroline broke Annie in as a youngster and taught her everything she knows. She rode her and evented her, and it really shows how hard Caroline worked with Annie because she’s my dream horse! Caroline is amazing, I hope to be like her one day.

Next are my goals. With Annie I hope to event at BE90/100 eventually and possibly further. These are my goals because I feel that if I work hard with Annie and get a good record of unaffiliated results at the lower heights, then we can improve together and become a great team. I think, personally, that working hard at the lower stuff will improve our technique and this will help us step up when we are ready. I don’t feel any rush to be doing anything massive at the moment because I want to work with Annie at what we already have. When I’m older, I’d love to become a 4* eventer and try Badminton and Burghley!

Annie and I have achieved quite a bit in the 9 months we’ve been together. We’ve been to many places, competing and training. One of our favourite places to go so far has got to be Ickworth Park Cross Country. We have been training there and completed a ODE at 80cm. It was my first ODE there yet Annie took care of me the whole time and gave me such a thrill! We got placed 7th overall in my section, so not only did we come home with a big grin but also a double clear rosette and an orange 7th place, too. Annie and I have also competed at The Jays, Topthorn Equestrian Centre and Forest Edge. We’ve jumped and come 6th for the Suffolk Hunt Pony Club and have completed an amazing Harry Meade clinic. Annie works really hard and always tries her best for me so we always come home in the ribbons. I am always proud of anything we do -except from any silly mistakes I make! Annie is a true ‘horse of a lifetime’ who has already made me some of the most amazing memories.

I can’t wait for the future. Annie and I have got so many exciting things to look forward to over the summer, including Pony Club Camp, Barrow Hall Stables Camp and Gt Witchingham ODE in August. I’m super excited as Gt Witchingham will be my first over night event!

I hope you’ve enjoyed reading my first blog for Forelock and Load. Here’s to an extremely exciting summer for all of us!
