One of the younger Forelock and Load riders has kindly written us a blog on coping with the national lock down.

I hope you enjoy my Instagram idea #forelockandloadlockdown

How are you all getting on in lock down? Are you missing school, your friends and normal life? I thought I would let you know how I am getting on.

I am 12 yrs old and on Monday last week I was due to start a new secondary school in the middle of year 7. What a time to start?!?! So although I have now moved schools I have yet to meet any of my teachers or any other people at the school but I have been in contact with some on email but it’s not really the same!

Thankfully I have my two ponies, Rocky and Flynn at home so I have been lucky enough to spend so much more time with them to help get me through this lock down. Rocky, Flynn and I had been competing regularly and we had all future weekends jam packed with exciting SJ competitions and Rocky and I were going to give Dressage a go too….. I can see Rocky breathe a sigh of relief to be getting out of stressage!!!!!!!  Flynn and I have done some ok ish dressage tests but I have only had Rocky for about two months and we had been concentrating on our jumping and had just started competing a few weekends before the lock down begun.

We have now decided the NHS are far too busy to add me and any broken bones to their list of jobs so we are laying off jumping for the minute (I do fall off Rocky when jumping……a lot) so we are enjoying lots of hacks around the lanes and fields letting the ponies be ponies and having super long gallops and lots of fun. I also plan to brush up on our flat work in the school during this time….though that has yet to happen!!!!

I was due to take my pony club C Test over Easter but this has unfortunately been cancelled. We had our first stable management lesson over Zoom on Monday which was really fun. We can now keep that going and once lock down is over we will be ready to take our tests.

Whilst doing my school work I have also taken the time to clean the tack room, wash and tidy the ponies, clean rugs and my kit and have a long overdue general clear out!

Also although I am not jumping my ponies for a while my little brother and I are spending hours making showjumping courses in the school and jumping around on foot!!!!

Having fun in the river on Bluebell
