Why Laura decided to hire the Stübben Freedom Bridle:
Laura Tollit has kindly written this Stübben Freedom Bridle review, having decided to hire the bridle for her horse Stan who has a number of melanomas. Laura found that a standard bridle was pressing on the masses and was keen to do as much as possible to keep him comfortable and in ridden work. Laura came into Forelock and Load and mentioned that along with the growths, he was inconsistent in the contact and fussy with his head. We recommended she hired the Stübben Freedom Bridle.
My horse Stanley is a 12 year old Irish Sports Horse and he has melanomas in the parotid region.
I have found that a normal bridle puts direct pressure on them. He has never been easy to ride on the flat and has a distinct dislike for dressage!
I decided to hire the Stübben Freedom Bridle from Forelock and Load to try and find a way to relieve the tension on the melanomas.
The cut back head piece and cheek pieces designed to allow freedom for the ears and full sight for your horse – proved the perfect solution as it fitted between the masses (see photo above). Aside from the fit of the bridle for Stan’s needs, I couldn’t believe the difference in the contact compared to his usual bridle. He was much more relaxed and rideable and seemed to actually start to enjoy his schooling. I think this is due to the fact the bridle is designed to sit away from the facial nerves.
I also use the Freedom Bridle for jumping, his canter is definitely much more consistent around a course than before!
