Have we found the ultimate dog bowl?
If you share your home with dogs, you know the struggle of the “migrating” water bowl. You put it in the corner, and five minutes later, it’s been nudged halfway across the kitchen, surrounded by a small pond. This also happens at food time, the dogs will be chasing their bowls trying to finish their meal!
With two Labradors and a Rhodesian Ridgeback, our house is full of energy and thirsty/hungry dogs. After years of cycling through ceramic, plastic and thin metal bowls, we finally made the switch to YETI Boomer Dog Bowls.
Here is why they have become an essential part of our daily routine.
The Perfect Size: Boomer 4 vs. Boomer 8
Because we have three large dogs, we’ve found that a “one size fits all” approach doesn’t work. Instead, we use a combination of the two available sizes:
- The Boomer 8 (Large): We use these exclusively for water. We have four of these placed strategically throughout the house and the conservatory. They hold a massive amount of water, which is vital for high-energy, large breeds like Labs and Ridgebacks.
- The Boomer 4 (Medium): Each of our three has their own Boomer 4 for their meals. It’s the perfect size for a standard kibble or fresh cuts portion and fits comfortably in their feeding areas.
Sturdy, Steady, and Tough
The standout feature for us is the weight. These bowls are sturdy. Thanks to the “BearFoot” non-slip ring on the bottom, they do not slide across the floor—even when the Labradors are at their most enthusiastic during dinner time.
They are made from double-wall, non-insulated stainless steel. It’s important to note that YETI Dog Bowls are not vacuum insulated like their famous Rambler tumblers, but we have noticed a difference in temperature. Our dogs’ water stays noticeably cooler for longer compared to the basic metal bowls we used previously.
User-Friendly for Humans, Too
As much as the dogs love them, I love how easy they are to maintain:
- Dishwasher Safe: After meal times, a quick rinse and they go straight into the dishwasher. They come out looking brand new every time.
- BPA Free: Peace of mind is important when it comes to what our pets are eating and drinking from.
- Built to Last: They come with an incredible 5-year warranty. Just a tip: Don’t forget to register yours on the YETI website when you purchase to ensure you’re covered!
The One Downside: Colour Choice
If I had one complaint, it’s the colour offering here in the UK. When you have multiple dogs, it’s helpful to have a different colour for each of them (sorry YETI black and navy are too similar!). It makes life much easier when we are away and someone else is feeding the pack—”The Ridgeback gets the blue bowl, the Labs get the green and neon” makes for very simple instruction!
We’re keeping our fingers crossed that YETI brings more of their limited-edition palettes across the pond soon to help us distinguish between the dogs’ sets.
Final Verdict
If you have big dogs that tend to be “heavy-handed” with their gear, the YETI Boomer bowls are worth every penny. They are an investment in durability, hygiene, and—thankfully—a drier kitchen floor and ultimately happy dogs.
Do you have a YETI-obsessed dog? I’d love to know which colour you managed to get your hands on!
