Loose Ring Ultra Comfy Lock Up Bit Hire

Bomber Loose Ring Ultra Comfy Lock Up

This bit has been a revelation!!  The Ultra Comfy Lock Up has been designed to suit very sensitive mouthed horses.  The shape is such that it follows the contour of the horse’s mouth and takes pressure off the tongue.

The center joint has been double locked to ensure that the angle over the tongue remains correct, even when the reins are taken up, but it retains the individual lateral aids.

The Ultra Comfy Lock Up has a generous curve, to follow the shape of the horse’s mouth.  We have found that the need for softer and softer bits has been growing, as breeding has been producing finer and more sensitive horses.  If your horse requires a bit more stability in the mouth, we would recommend trying the eggbutt version.

The Ultra Comfy Loose Ring Snaffle is BD legal.

I knew my 17.2 hh ex chaser was not happy in his mouth and he resisted any form of contact, even very light, despite being ridden in a loose ring snaffle with a lozenge which appeared to fit very well. However, I was unsure how to resolve the problem despite my best efforts. A friend suggested I visit Kirstie at Forelock and Load and try one of the Bombers bits they have in stock. I am so grateful to Kirstie for her help and the assistance she had from Bombers Bits themselves in finding the right bit for Owen. They suggested the new loose ring Ultra Comfy Lock Up and the transformation in Owen has been remarkable. Being able to have the bit on trial for 10 days meant I wasn’t under pressure to make an immediate decision. I can’t thank Kirstie enough for taking the time to talk through the problems I was having, for relaying the information to Bombers Bits and finding the ultimate solution. It is such a joy to have a happy content horse and I would recommend that anyone with a horse who is sensitive in the mouth should ask Kirstie for advice.

    Kind regards

Fitting Details

Fitting the Bomber Bit

The bit should be fitted in your horse’s mouth with the size (as you look at the horse) the correct way up for you to read and on your right-hand side.

We recommend that you have the bit so the horse just has ½ to one lip wrinkle at the corner of the mouth. This might have to be altered if the horse has large canines.

When fitting a bit with a fixed cheek e.g an eggbutt we recommend that the lip should sit flush with the butt to ensure a snug but not tight fit. When fitting a loose ring (pictured below) we like to see a bit of clearance either side of approx. 3-4mm to make sure the lips will not get pinched.

If you have any queries please email Kirstie with photos so we can recommend how to change it.
